Achieve A Great Result In Job Hunting

Earning this summer despite tight competition

Despite the improvement in the US economy, reports indicate that the summer job market employment will be tight this year. Citing Chigago-based outplacement firm, Challenger, Gray, ABC News disclosed that massive budget deficits could result in fewer employment opportunities during summer. Also, recent college graduates and older workers looking to supplement their retirement income may pose a stiff competition to teenagers searching for summer employment in the private sector.

Heres what you can do to help you land a summer job or earn despite tight competition:

1. Try all resources available

Dont just rely on the Internet. Look for summer job openings in community newspapers and magazines. Go around the neighborhood and survey stores which would most likely need an extra hand. Better yet, walk into the store and ask the manager personally whether they would consider hiring seasonal workers.

2. Advertise yourself

Let your friends, neighbors and relatives know that you will be willing to cut their lawn or do basic carpentry for them. Go for volume–cheaper rates usually mean more customers so charge them lower fees.

3. Look for other income-generating activities

Go around and ask your neighbors if they have junk to sell. Recyclers usually buy newspapers, cartons, metals, and electronic products. Offer to collect or buy their junk and sell those stuff to recyclers near you.
